ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 2012-13 Brandeis swimming and diving team had its second meet of the season, and their first on the road, as the Judges traveled to the University of Rochester for a mini-UAA meet.

The highlight of the trip came from sophomore Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow). For the second time in as many meets, Fabian set a Brandeis school record. He won the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:36.09, defeating Chris Wysocki of Carnegie Mellon by more than four seconds. Fabian took more than eight second off the existing school record set by Robert Morse in 2009. Fabian also had a 10^th-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.54.

Senior Holly Spicer (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) also continued her fine comeback season with a pair of top-eight performances. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Spicer placed fifth with a time of 2:36.54, 4.01 seconds out of the top spot. It was the best finished for a Brandeis woman at the meet and second only to Fabian's win in the 1,650. Spicer also had a seventh-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.91 in a race in which half a second separated her from the top five.

Also turning in multiple top-eight performances was sophomore diver Eliza Kopelman (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline). Kopelman placed seventh in the one-meter event with a score of 160.90 and eighth in her first three-meter performance of the year with a score of 131.40.

On the men's side, the Judges also got a top-eight race from rookie sprinter Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon), who placed eighth in the 100 free with a time of 49.69 seconds. Luk was 14^th in the 60 free with a time of 22.98 seconds.  Classmate Fallon Bushee (Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter Sch.) just missed a top-10 performance in the women's 50 free with a time of 26.29 seconds, in 11^th place by just 0.05. In the 100 backstroke, rookie Fay Laborio (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) was 10^th with a time of 1:07.43.

The meet was scored as four different dual meets, with Brandeis swimming against University Athletic Association rivals Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, NYU and Rochester, all of which are among the top squads in the nation. Brandeis's top point totals both came against NYU, where the men scored 82 points and the women had 64.

The Judges return home on Nov. 3 to face Roger Williams University at 1 p.m.
