MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sophomore Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow) earned two wins, including lowering his own school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, as the Brandeis University swimming and diving team fell at Wesleyan this afternoon. The men dropped a 171-75 decision, while the women fell, 207-70.

Fabian was responsible for two of the Judges' four wins on the afternoon, taking the 500- and 1,000-yard free. In the 1,000, his time of 9:56.44 was more than a second and a half faster than his previous school record set during the season opener. Fabian won the 1,000 by 24 seconds of the closest Cardinal swimmer, then went on to take the 500 by 13 seconds later in the meet.  He was also third in the 200 butterfly.

Rookie Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon) was another top performer for the Brandeis men, with their third first-place finish and two seconds. He won the 100-yard free in 48.98 seconds, edging Wesleyan's swimmer by 0.23 seconds. Luk was runner-up by just 0.18 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and in the 50 free by 0.53 seconds.

The fourth winner on the afternoon for the Judges came on the women's side, where rookie Fallon Bushee (Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter Sch.) out-touched her Cardinal rival by five-hundredths of a second in the 50-yard freestyle. She also placed fourth in the 100 free.

Other second-place finishes for the Judges came from rookie Theresa Gaffney (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:52.90; rookie Fay Laborio (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) in the 100 and 200 back (1:06.11 and 2:20.67);  rookie Padraig Murphy (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) in the 200 back (2:08.12); senior Holly Spicer (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.22); rookie Lauren Cruz (Redmond, Wash. / Hamilton East-Steinert) in the 500 free (5:37.14); and sophomore Eliza Kopelman (Chestnut Hill, Mass. / Brookline) the one- and three-meter diving (167.55 and 184.87).

The Judges return to action next Saturday at Clark University.
