Cruz wins, but women's swimming drops 180-77 decision at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Brandeis women's swimming and diving team got a win from rookie Lauren Cruz (Redmond, Wash. / Hamilton East-Steinert) and two second-place finishes from senior Holly Spicer (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) on Saturday afternoon, but Cruz's win was the only one for Judges in a 180-77 loss at Trinity College. 

Cruz's win came in the 500-yard freestyle. Her time of 5:36.92 was 10 seconds faster than the Trinity runner-up. 

Spicer placed second in both breaststroke events. She came just short of catching the Bantam swimmer in the 200 with a time of 2:35.21, just seven-hundredths of a second off the pace. In the 100, her time of 1:11.65 was about two seconds behind.

Sophomore diver Eliza Kopelman (Chestnut Hill, Mass. / Brookline) also came in second in both of her events, with scores of 213.15 in the 1-meter and 249.75 in the 3-meter. 

The Judges return to Linsey Pool next Saturday against WPI at 1 p.m.
