Wozab, Zitelny named UAA Swimmers of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University swimmers Natalya Wozab of Plantation, Florida, and Edan Zitelny of Syosset, New York, have been named the University Athletic AssociationSwimmers of the Week for women's and men's swimming and diving, respectively, for December 12.

      In a meet against Colby College on Dec. 9, Wozab, a rookie, and Zitelny, a senior, each posted three individual victories and were part of one relay win.

      In a 167-119 loss for the women, Wozab won both breaststroke events in addition to the 20-yard individual medley. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.33, the 200 in 2:32.64 and captured the IM in 2:16.68 by a margin of just under three seconds. She was also part of the women's 200 medley relay team of junior Amy Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass./Framingham), Wozab, and rookies Hwanhee Park (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and Yvette Smith (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) who opened the meet with a win by posting a time of 1:53.02. It was the fastest time in the event at Brandeis under head coach Mike Kotch and just under half a second off the school record.

      Zitelny helped the Brandeis men to a 161-116 victory. He swept the butterfly events, taking the 100 in 52.81 seconds and the 200 in 1:58.47. Zitelny also edged brother Tamir, a first-year, in the 200-yard individual medley by 0.53 seconds with a time of 1:59.68 thanks to a one-and-a-half second advantage in the butterfly leg. Edan and Tamir also teamed with junior Richard Avrutsky (Needham, Mass./Needham) and senior Cameron Braz (Monson, Mass./Monson) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:38.59.

      Wozab is a 2016 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

Zitelny is a 2013 graduate of Syosset High School.
