Judges Swimming and Diving In Ninth After First Day of Gompei

Brandeis Men and Women's Swimming and Diving Team both took ninth place in the first day of the Gompei Invitational. The women are currently trailing first place WPI 1612-467, while the men are behind WPI 1808-563.

Senior Amy Sheinhait (Framingham, MA / Framingham) and first year Rachel Goldblatt (Atlanta, GA / Galloway School) both set University records in the 50 yard  freestyle (24.83) and 100 yard butterfly (59.69), respectively. Sheinhait finished tied for seventh, and Goldblatt finished ninth. Also leading the way for the women were Natalya Wozab (Plantation, FL / Saint Thomas Aquinas) and Annie Huang (Chapel Hill, NC / East Chapel Hill) who took the top two spots in the C Final of the 200 yard breaststroke with times of 2:32.67 and 2:33.80.

For the men, Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, NY / Syosset) tied for first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50:26, Brandeis' only first place finish on the day. Rookie standout Daniel Wohl (Chapel Hill, NC / East Chapel Hill) had another solid performance, finishing fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:07.78) and second in the 200 yard breaststroke preliminary (207.83). First year Richie Selznick (Las Vegas, NV / Palo Verde High School) secured a top ten finish in the 1650 yard freestyle, finishing in seventh place (16:41.68) Wohl and Selznick led the Judges to a seventh place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay, along with senior Taku Harada (Henrico, VA / Mills E. Godwin) and rookie Marcelo Ohno-Machado (San Diego, CA / Torrey Pines High School.

The Judges will look to rebound on Saturday in the second day of the WPI's Gompei Invitational.
