Zitelny, Huang named UAA Swimmers of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. –  A pair of Brandeis University swimmers have earned University Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week honors for December 11.

For the men, sophomore Tamir Zitelny of Syosset, New York, was honored as the UAA Swimmer of the Week for the second time in his career. In a 145-143 loss to Colby College on December 9, Zitelny won three races. He swept the backstroke events, edging his nearest competitor in the 100 by eight-hundredths of a second with a time of 54.06 seconds. He took the 200 fly by a slightly larger margin, closer to one full second, with a mark of 2:01.05. Zitelny then proved his versatility by capturing the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.78 seconds and anchoring the winning 400-yard freestyle relay to a win with a time of 3:16.30.

On the women's side, rookie Annie Huang of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, took home UAA honors for the first time in her career. She won both individual breaststroke events, swimming 1:12.63 in the 100 and 2:39.85 in the 200. She won both races by more than 1.2 seconds. Huang was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay that posted a time of 1:57.68. The Judges dropped their December 9 meet against Colby by a slim margin as well, 149-146.

The Brandeis swimming and diving teams return to action on January 20 with a meet against Keene State College and Bridgewater State University at KSC.

Zitelny is a 2016 graduate of Syosset High School.

Huang is a 2017 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.
