ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis swim and dive teams continued the UAA Championship meet today at Emory University. The Judges added three more school records to their total for the meet on day two. The men are currently in seventh place with 238 points, leading Rochester by three. The women are in eighth place with a total of 180 points.
On the women's side, senior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston), junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham), and sophomores Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus / Laniteio Lyceum) and Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior High School) teamed up for the 200-yard free relay. They placed eighth with a time of 1:39.50. The women continued their night as Iizuka, Bailey, and Gonzalez were joined by first-year Audrey Teo (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto High School) for the 400-yard medley relay. The group placed eighth in a new school record time of 3:57.88, lowering the previous record by 0.1 seconds.
On the men's side, sophomore Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino High School) and junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) finaled individually and broke school records. Ngo placed 22nd in prelims in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:53.89. This broke the 19-year-old school record by 0.79 seconds. Ngo went on to place 24th in finals with a time of 1:54.64. Dienstag broke his own record in the 500-yard free in prelims, placing third with a time of 4:26.13. He went on to place fourth in finals with a time of 4:27.20. Dienstag was joined by senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. / Memphis University School), and first-years Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School) and Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated High School) for the 200-yard free relay where they placed eighth with a time of 1:25.74. Ferebee, Xiao, and Dienstag also teamed up with senior James Smith (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington High School) for the 400-yard medley relay. The group placed eighth with a time of 3:27.92.
The Judges continue the UAA Championship meet tomorrow with prelims starting at 10 AM and finals starting at 6 PM.
