CAMRBIDGE, Mass. -- Two Brandeis women's tennis players reached
the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
New England Regional championships today. Sophomore Rachel
Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla.) and senior Gabrielle
Helfgott (Newton, Mass.) each won their first match
without losing a game. Rosman defeated Elizabeth Anderson of Vassar
College and Helfgott dispatched Katie Muto of Colby by 6-0, 6-0
scores. Sophomore Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood,
Texas) suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Brett Davis of Bowdoin in the
first round.
Rosman, the tournament's seventh seed, advanced to the third round
of the tournament with another easy win, 6-0, 6-1 over Melissa
Weinstein of Springfield College. Helfgott dropped her second match
sixth-seeded Nicole Pontee of Vassar, 6-2, 6-2.
Rosman also advanced in doubles action. She and rookie
Sarah Richman (Sewickly, Pa.) advanced to the
second round with an 8-5 win over Lombardi and Waldman of Bowdoin.
Gallegos and Helfgott fell in the doubles draw, 8-2, to Backer and
Romita from Vassar.
