WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University women's tennis sophomore Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) completed an unbeaten weekend at 6-0, while classmate Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) went 5-1 as the Judges finished in sixth place at the University Athletic Association championships. After falling to fourth-seeded and 14th-ranked Washington University yesterday, 7-2, the Judges downed Case Western Reserve, 9-0, in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, rival NYU outlasted Brandeis, 5-3.The Judges close the campaign with an 11-9 record.

Against Case, no Brandeis player lost more than three games in their entire singles match. Rosman won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, while Gallegos took a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 4. They also teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Also winning by the same 6-2, 6-1 score were senior Gabrielle Helfgott (Newton, Mass./Noble & Greenough) at No. 2 and junior Ariana Sanai (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) at No. 3. Junior Emily Weisberger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) was a 6-1, 6-2, winner at No. 5, and rookie Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 6. Helfgott and Levine took an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles and Sanai and Weisberger cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 3.

In the fifth-place match against NYU, Gallegos and Rosman won their third doubles match of the tournament, 8-5, to open the scoring. The Violets responded with the next two wins, as sophomores Elizabeth Feldman and Lena-Sophie Krups won, 8-5, at No. 3 and senior Amanda Feldman, a Newton native, and  sophomore Lisa Mijovic took an 8-4 win at No. 2 to give NYU a 2-1 lead.

In singles action, NYU moved to 3-1 as Krups defeated Levine, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6, while Rosman completed her perfect tourney with a 6-1, 6-1 win over rookie Elizabeth Stachtiaris. Gallegos briefly evened the match when she topped Freedman at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4, but Mijovic downed Weisberger at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4, to move the visitors within a point of victory. The final two matches went to three sets as darkness set in, and NYU senior Stephanie Tu finally prevailed over Helfgott at No. 2, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, leaving Sanai and Feldman on the court uncompleted.
