Brandeis women's tennis completes 9-0 sweep of Babson

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis women's tennis team, ranked 10th in New England and 30th nationally—according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll, won every set this evening to defeat Babson College 9-0.  With the win, the Judges improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 9-6.

Brandeis' top doubles team of senior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) and sophomore Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) got the squad off to a fine start with an 8-4 win over rookie Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and junior Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn).  Junior Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples) and senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) defeated their opponents, 8-2 in the Judges' largest doubles victory.  With another win in the third spot by rookies Marissa Lazar (Hewlett, N.Y./Lynbrook) and Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), Brandeis had a 3-0 edge going into singles competition.

Rosman, who is ranked 11th in the region, led off the Judges in the number one spot, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Whitaker.  Broderick, 23rd in the region, topped Stone 6-2, 6-4 in the second position.  Bernstein had a fine performance in the fourth seed, defeating senior Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) 6-2, 6-0.  In the fifth and sixth positions, rookie Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) defeated her opponent Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), 7-5, 7-5, and classmate Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) went 6-2, 6-1 to complete the sweep.

The Judges are inaction again on March 26 when they take on University Athletic Association foe, New York University in the New York City.

The Beavers' next contest is March 25 at Bates College.
