WALTHAM, Mass. – Despite a slow start in doubles competition, the Brandeis University women's tennis team swept singles action to defeat Bates College, 7-2, for their fourth win in a row.  The Judges are ranked 30th in the nation and 10th in region according to the most recent  Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III poll. With the win, Brandeis advances to 9-3 on the season and the Bates falls to 5-4.

The Judges struggled through doubles competitions, falling to Bates 2-1.  Rookies Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) and Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) had the only Brandeis victory in doubles, defeating their opponents 8-6 in third seed.  The Bobcats picked up wins in the first two spots, with Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and Ashley Brunk (Phoenix, Ariz.) grabbing an 8-6 win in the first position. Erika Blauth (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) and Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) topped senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood) and junior Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples), 9-7 in the second spot.

The Judges made a comeback in singles action, winning all six matches, with the 11th-ranked Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, FL/Estero) and 23rd-ranked sophomore Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) winning handily in the first two spots.  The Judges picked up the win when rookie Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) topped her opponent 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth position.

The Judges are back in action on April 1, when the take on the Wellesley Blue at Wellesley.

Bate takes the court again on April 3 against Amherst.
