The 30th-ranked Brandeis Univeristy women's tennis team continued their campaign with an 8-1 victory over University Athletic Association conference rivals, New York University on Saturday. With the win, the Judges improve to 8-3 on the season, while the Violets fall to 0-5.
The Judges have swept the last three doubles competitions, paced by senior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) and sophomore Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, NY../Washingtonville) in the first position, who are 9-2 on the season. Rosman and Broderick started out the match with an 8-2 over Elisabeth Stachtiaris (Old Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Ariel Sultan (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais). In the number two spot, senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and junior Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples) topped Liz Feldman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and Lisa Mijovic (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Nightingale-Bamford School), 8-3. Rookies and Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) won a close match over Ramya Pokala (Temple, Texas/Temple) and Sara Joo (Wayne, N.J./Midwood), 8-6, in the third seed.
In singles action, Rosman, ranked 11th in the region, topped Stachtiaris 6-1, 6-4 in the first spot and No. 23 Broderick went 6-1, 6-1 over Feldman. The Judges' only loss came in the third position where Sultan topped Gallegos in three close sets, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.
The Judges are in action again today when they take on Bates College at Brandeis.
NYU plays again today, when they host William Smith College.
