#30 Brandeis women move to 3-0 with sweep of Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The 30th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team defeated Occidental College, 9-0, in their second match of a five-match swing through California. The sweep improves the Judges to 3-0, while the Tigers fall to 1-2. 

Brandeis cruised through doubles, where they lost just five games in three matches. In singles play, the matches were split with three straight-set matches and three that went the distance, but all six were won by the Judges. Junior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) breezed at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0, while rookie Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Cal./Half Moon Bay) took a 6-1, 6-1, decision at No. 5. Sophomore Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) won, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 in the last of the two-set matches.

At No. 1 singles, rookie Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) survived after splitting the first two sets, 6-2, 2-6, by taking the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-8. Rookie Dylan Schlesinger (Miami, Fla./Palmetto) won her collegiate singles debut at No. 6,  by going the distance, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Sophomore Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) earned a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 4 singles in the longest match of the day.
