WALTHAM, Mass.- The 25th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Bentley University in their home opener. Sophomore Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./ Abington Friends) clinched the victory with her straight set 6-0, 6-2 win at the #4 singles spot and the Judges finished things off by winning three of the final four matches. Brandeis improves to 8-1 on the season while Bentley falls to 3-7.
The Judges started the match off in dominating fashion, winning all three doubles matches 8-1 to establish an early lead. The next win came from rookie Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./ Point Loma) who took the match at #1 singles 6-3, 6-1. Katz clinched the match by making it 5-0 Judges with her second victory of the day. Katz and rookie Dylan Schlesinger (Miami, Fla./ Palmetto) had already teamed up for their win at #2 doubles. At #6 singles, rookie Jill Martin (Atlanta, Ga./ Lovejoy) started for just the third time this year and earned her third straight victory with a hard fought 6-3, 7-5 win. Junior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./ Washingtonville) won 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles and teamed up with Cooke for the win at #1 doubles. Sophomore Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./ Glenbrook North) earned a 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles and paired up with classmate Marissa Lazar (Hewlett, N.Y./ Lynbrook) for their victory at #3 doubles.
Brandeis continues their season on March 29th with a match at Babson College starting at 3:00 p.m.
