MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Brandeis University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of sixth-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday. The Judges fall two 2-4, with all of their losses coming to nationally-ranked squads. The Panthers improve to 2-0.

Brandeis's lone win came at the top of the doubles lineup, where senior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and sophomore Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma), the No. 19 doubles tandem in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III women's rankings, knocked off Middlebury's ninth-ranked Brittany Faber and Leah Kepping, 8-5. The Panthers earned routs in the other two doubles matches, 8-2 at No. 2 and 8-1 at No. 3, to take a 2-1 lead into singles. The hosts did not drop a set in singles play. The premier match featured Cooke, ranked No. 17 in Division III, and Middlebury sophomore Lok-Sze Leung, ranked second, in the No. 1 match. Leung prevailed, 6-4, 6-1.

Brandeis returns to action next Saturday afternoon at home against Tufts University, part of an eight-match homestand.
