WALTHAM, Mass. -- In a matchup of two nationally-ranked women's tennis teams, the 23rd-ranked MIT Engineers knocked off #24 Brandeis, 6-3, on the Rieger Tennis Courts. The Judges fall to 7-6 with the loss, while the Engineers improved to 15-4.

Brandeis had one double winner on the day. Junior Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) teamed with classmate Marissa Lazar (Hewlett, N.Y./Lynbrook) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-3 victory. That was the Judges' only doubles point as they fell behind, 2-1, entering singles play.

Bernstein rolled at third singles, 6-0, 6-1, but Brandeis was only able to capture one other singles match. At No. 2, senior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) captured a first-set tiebreaker and went on to a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) suffered a narrow loss to MIT's Lauren Quisenberry, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
