Brandeis doubles teams earn All-UAA honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – The No. 1 and 3 doubles tandems on the 24th-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team have each earned second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors for their unbeaten performances at the 2013 UAA championships at Altamonte Springs, Fla., on April 25 through 27.

The Judges' top doubles team consisted of sophomore Carley Cooke of San Diego, Calif., and senior Faith Broderick of Washingtonville, N.Y. They rolled past Kate Klein and Corinne Rauck of Washington University, 8-2, in the first round, a 5-4 loss to the 10th-ranked Bears. In the consolation semifinals, they helped the Judges to an 8-1 win over the University of Rochester with an 8-4 win over Frances Tseng and Cara Genbauffe. Finally, in the fifth-place match against No. 22 Case Western Reserve, Cooke and Broderick defeated Erika Lim and Surya Khadlikar, 8-5.

Overall this season, Broderick and Cooke finished with a 12-5 record in dual matches. Cooke was the 2012 UAA Rookie of the Year and second-team All-Association selection, earning a bid to the NCAA Division III Individual tournament and claiming All-America honors, the first in program history. At third doubles, the junior duo of Allyson Bernstein of Northbrook, Ill., and Marissa Lazar of Hewlett, N.Y., also posted a 3-0 record. They upended Aly Coran and Paige Madara of WashU in the opener, 8-3; Rachel Suresky and Hayley Brower of Rochester in round two, 8-5; and Kat Evers and Emily Pham of Case in the fifth-place match, 8-3.
