KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The 2012-13 Brandeis University athletic season came to a close today as the Judges' women's tennis duo of senior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and sophomore Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) dropped their opening-round match at the NCAA Division III Doubles Tournament at Kalamazoo College. 

Broderick and Cooke suffered a 6-4, 6-4, defeat at the hands of the tournament's second-seeded team of senior Gabrielle Clark and rookie Annette Sullivan of University Athletic Association foe Emory University. The two teams, who were both named All-UAA, were relatively evenly matched, with the Eagles only picking up one break of serve in each set. They took the third game of the opening set and game seven of set two.  

Brandeis had a chance to earn their first break of serve late in the second set. Trailing, 4-5, the Judges took a 15-40 lead on Sullivan, but the Eagles' duo won five points in a row to clinch the match. By advancing, the Emory duo hopes to become the Eagles' fourth-straight doubles tandem to reach the championship match. They also recently reached the championship match of the team tournament, where they picked up one of EU's two points in a 5-2 loss to Williams.

As a team, Broderick and Cooke wind up their campaign with a 14-7 record, Broderick ends her career with 108 victories in singles and doubles for the Judges, while Cooke will take 58 wins into her junior season.
