Broderick and Cooke named to All-America teams

WALTHAM, Mass. – Recent Brandeis graduate Faith Broderick of Washingtonville, N.Y., and rising junior Carley Cooke of San Diego, Calif., have capped their 2012-13 seasons with All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association by virtue of their ITA rankings at the end of the season. Together they were tied for 10th to earn second-team selections as a doubles team, while Cooke tied for 20th in singles to earn honors for the third time overall. With their honors, Brandeis finished with six All-Americans in 2012-13, their most since 2009-10. 

The Judges' top doubles team finished with a 12-6 record in dual matches this year. They were second-team All-University Athletic Association selections, behind the duo from UAA team champions Emory. Broderick and Cooke faced that Eagle tandem in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Doubles tournament and fell, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that featured just two breaks of serve, one in each set. The Emory team were part of the national runners-up in the team tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the doubles tournament.

In two seasons together, Broderick and Cooke were 26-11 as a tandem. Alternates for the 2012 NCAA championships, they just the second Brandeis doubles team ever chosen to the NCAAs, joining Abby Lerner '05 and Colleen Donnelly '08, who were selected in 2005. Broderick and Cooke are the first doubles All-Americans in team history.

Cooke, the 2012 University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and second-team All-Association selection at first singles, claimed the first All-America honor in program history in 2012. She posted an 11-8 record in 2013 and is 27-14 overall in her career at No. 1 singles.

Broderick, who made her first trip to nationals as a senior, posted 105 wins in her career at Brandeis in singles and doubles combined.

Cooke is a 2011 graduate of Point Loma High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Elysia Cooke, San Diego, Calif.

Broderick is a 2009 graduate of Washingtonville High School. She is the daughter of Richard and Joanne Broderick, Washingtonville, N.Y.
