GREENVILLE, R.I. -- The Brandeis women's tennis team, ranked 25th in Division III, opened their 2015 spring season on Saturday night against Division I Bryant University. The Judges lost, 6-1, but rookie Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Laurel Springs) earned a pair of victories.

Playing under Division I rules, the three doubles matches counted for one point, with each match being one regular set instead of a pro-set. Cohen and senior All-American Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) knocked off Bryant's top team of Marion Bouillard and Ryan Brown in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1). The Bulldogs took second and third doubles both with scores of 6-1.

In singles action, the top doubles teams faced off at the top two singles spots. At No. 1, Cooke took the first set from Bryant's Brown, 6-4, who rallied to take the second two sets,  6-3 and 10-6 in a third-set super-tiebreaker. At No. 2, Cohen flipped the script. After Bouillard won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, Cohen bounced back to win 6-3, 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker.

The Bulldogs won the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets to close out the victory.

Brandeis returns to action in two weeks when they make their annual West Coast swing, with matches against Chapman, #19 Redlands and #15 LaVerne.
