Seniors win for #26 WTennis against #4 Amherst.

WALTHAM, Mass. –The #26-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team picked up a pair of nice singles wins yesterday but the Judges fell to #4 Amherst, 7-2, on the second day of the fourth annual Nor'Easter Bowl. Brandeis falls to 4-8 on the season, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 7-1.

Brandeis's two wins came from a pair of seniors. At No. 1 singles, Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) came up with a big win in an effort to return to the NCAA championships for the third year in a row. Cooke, currently ranked 11th in the Northeast region, faced third-ranked Vickie Ip of the Lord Jeffs. After the visitor won the first set, 6-4, Cooke came back to win the next two, 6-3, 6-3. Cooke improved to 9-6 overall this year.

Brandeis's other win came at No. 3 singles, where Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay) picked up a 6-3, 7-6 win over Jacqueline Calla. Vandroff took the tiebreaker by a 7-5 score.

Brandeis returns to action on Tuesday afternoon against 21st-ranked Babson at home at 3 p.m.
