Khromchenko earns ITA win at WTennis season opener

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Brandeis women's tennis team opened its 2015-16 this past weekend at the ITA New England Regional championships at Middlebury.

The Judges had one player advance past the first round. Rookie Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) defeated Noa Dubin of Smith, 6-0, 6-0, before falling to Catherine Miller of the host team in the second round.

Sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Laurel Springs) won her first set, 6-2, against Amherst's Megan Adamo. Cohen couldn't take a tiebreaker from the Lord Jeff, falling 6-7, 4-10 in the super tie break third set.

Rookie Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also dropped her opener to a player from Amherst, the No. 3 team in the nation last year. Leavitt dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Joanna Booth.

In doubles action, Cohen and Leavitt fell to Middlebury's Bondy and Amos, 8-4, in the opening round, while senior Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and rookie Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) were ousted by Tufts duo Kamerica and Popa, 8-1.

The Judges are back in action with the NEWITT Doubles event on Oct. 16.
