#28 Brandeis women's tennis falls to #18 Redlands, 5-4

REDLANDS, Calif. – The #28 Brandeis women's tennis got contributions from five different players, but it wasn't quite enough to pull a road upset as the Judges fell to #15 University of Redlands, 5-4, last night. The Judges' record moves to 1-2, while the Bulldogs improve to 4-0.

Brandeis fell behind, 2-1, in doubles action. The Judges picked up their lone point at No. 1, where the tandem of sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) and rookie Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) took an 8-5 decision after U of R had won by an 8-4 score at Nos. 2 and 3.

In singles play, Brandeis rookie Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) continued her fine campaign at No. 3 with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, win to get Brandeis tied at 2-2.  The hosts earned their third point at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4, while senior Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was a 6-3, 6-3, winner at No. 6.

Redlands clinched the match with wins at No. 1, where Bulldogs' Natalie Etchegaray edged Cohen, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and at No. 4, where senior Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Rookie Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) earned the only three-set win of the match at No. 5, coming from a set down for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.

The Judges wind up their California trip on Saturday against fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
