WAYLAND, Mass. - The #31-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team concluded the Nor'Easter Bowl by dominating St. Lawrence University, 5-1, in a shortened competition this morning. The matches were scheduled to be held at Brandeis' Rieger Courts, but were moved to The Longfellow Club in Wayland due to - perhaps fittingly - the inclement weather.
With the victory, the Judges finish the Nor'Easter Bowl with a record of 2-1 and improve to 4-6 overall. The Saints fall to 7-6.
Brandeis started off well, taking the first two matches of doubles action. Sophomore Charlotte Aaron (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) and rookie Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) won at No. 2, 9-7, and the senior tandem of Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) and Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) followed with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3.
The Judges proceeded to sweep singles action. Vasser took the No. 5 matchup, 6-3, 6-0, followed by rookie Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Rookie Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/ Falmouth) clinched the Brandeis conquest at the No. 1 spot with a resounding 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 3 and No. 4 matchups were unfinished and the No. 6 was not played due to limited access to the courts.
The Judges' next competition will be Friday, April 8 vs Wheaton (Mass). College at 3:00 PM at the Rieger Tennis Courts.
