#28 women's tennis drops season finale to #8 Wesleyan, 7-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University tennis teams suffered a pair of 7-2 losses to Wesleyan University today to close out their regular seasons. The Judges, whose men's and women's teams are both ranked No. 28 in Division III, fell to 10-10 on the women's side, 9-11 on the men's. The Cardinal women, ranked No. 8 in Division III, improved to 10-4, while the No. 11 men move to  12-5.

Before the matches, Brandeis recognized their five seniors who were making their swan songs today. For the women, it was the final match for Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford)Emily Eska(Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional)Hannah Marion (Hillsborough, N.C./Cedar Ridge)and Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle). The men saw off one senior, Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School).

The Brandeis women got both of their points courtesy their seniors. Eska and Vasser defeated Maddie James and Nicole McCann at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, for the Judges' lone doubles point. Vasser also earned the team's point in singles play at the No. 6 position, leading 6-1, 3-0, when her opponent, Ella Lindholm-Uzzi, retired. Unfortunately for the Judges, the remaining singles matches were all decided in straight sets.

For the men, junior Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) provided both points. In doubles, he and classmate Ryan Bunis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Groton-Dunstable, Mass.) were 8-6 winners at No. 1 over Zach Brint and Greg Lyon. In singles play, Arguello outlasted Tiago Eusebio at No. 3, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, winning the tiebreaker, 8-6. The Judges had chances in several of their other singles matches, with Lubarsky dropping a pair of 7-5 sets to Cameron Daniels at No. 5. Granoff couldn't quite get over the hump at No. 2 singles against Michael Liu, falling in two tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4). Rookie Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South).
