#21 women blank St. Lawrence, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 21st-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team rolled past unranked St. Lawrence University, 9-0, in a non-conference match played indoors at the Gosman Athletic Center today. The Judges improve to 7-1 on the season with their fifth-straight win, while the Saints dropped their second match in a row to fall to 4-2.

In doubles play, the Judges got out to a quick start. Rookie Sabrina Ross Needgaard (Port Orchard, Wash./Laurel Springs Prep) and sophomore Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) opened the scoring at No. 1, 8-3, while sophomores Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Allied Academy of Health and Sciences) and Michele Lehat (Great Neck, N.Y./John L. Miller Great Neck North) won, 8-4, at No. 3. Junior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep)  and sophomore Ariana Ishaq (Houston, Texas/Carnegie Vanguard) closed out the sweep with a late break of serve for an 8-5 win.

In singles action, the Judges were never really tested. Cohen rolled to a 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 2, while Ross Neergaard clinched the match at the top spot, 6-2, 6-3. After a narrow win in the first set, Khromchenko helped Brandeis close out the first set of matches, 6-4, 6-1.

On the bottom half of the ladder, Ishaq earned a double-bagel at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, after Leavitt picked up a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 4. Lehat closed out the win, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5.

Brandeis is right back in action on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. when they meet University Athletic Association rivals NYU in a match that will be played at Longfellow Racquet Club in Wayland.
