Women's tennis places three on All-UAA team

All-UAA selections Sabrina Ross Neergaard, Olivia Leavitt and Keren Khromchenko

WALTHAM, Mass. — Three members of the Brandeis University women's tennis team have earned All-University Athletic Association honors today. Rookie Sabrina Ross Neergaard of Port Orchard, Washington, earned dual honors as a first-team singles player and second-team doubles with partner sophomore Olivia Leavitt of Falmouth, Maine. Sophomore Keren Khromchenko of Manalapan, New Jersey, earned second-team singles honors as well.

      Ross Neergaard played No. 1 singles and teamed with Leavitt at No. 1 doubles in her rookie season. She compiled a 14-6 record in dual matches and went 4-3 in tournament play to post a team-best 18-9 mark. She and Leavitt went 14-6 in doubles play in dual matches, adding an additional tournament win for a team-high 15 wins this season.

      Khromchenko, playing mostly at No. 3 singles, went 13-5 in dual matches at 3-2 in tournaments to finish her season at 16-7 overall, edging Ross Neergaard for the team's top winning percentage at .695. She also went 14-11 at No. 3 doubles, 13-7 in dual matches.

      Leavitt, in addition to her second-team doubles honor, was an honorable-mention selection for singles. Leavitt won her final eight matches of the season to go 14-4 in dual matches, tying Ross Neergaard for the team's most singles wins.

      Overall this season, the Judges went 15-5, posting the team's best record in the 11-year tenure of head coach Ben Lamanna and tying the school record for wins set in 1980-81. The Judges reached a team-best No. 18 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III national rankings during the season, ending the year at No. 19. Brandeis's entire starting lineup will return in 2017-18, with one junior, four sophomores and a freshman among their top six players.
