Women's tennis places three on All-UAA second team

WALTHAM, Mass. — Three members of the Brandeis University women's tennis team have been named to the 2018 All-University Athletic Association team.

In singles action, senior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep) earned All-Association honors for the first time in her career, landing on the second team at No. 4 singles. She had earned UAA All-Tournament honors earlier this season as well. Cohen posted an 8-8 record this season with matches played at each of the top four spots in the lineup. Her best mark came at No. 4, where she was 3-0, all against UAA opponents. Cohen also posted a 3-2 mark at No. 2 singles.

Also earning second-team honors was the No. 2 doubles team of junior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy). The pairing tied for the most wins on the Judges' roster and had the highest overall winning percentage, going 6-2, including 5-1 at the No. 2 spot and 1-1 at No. 1. They went 2-1 against UAA opponents, with the only loss coming in a tiebreaker. They were 6-2 against opponents from nationally-ranked teams. This was the second All-UAA selection for Leavitt, who earned second-team honors as a sophomore at No. 1 doubles. In addition to her doubles honor, Bertsch also earned honorable mention at singles after posting a team-high 13 wins, including five each at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

The Judges finished the 2018 season under head coach Ben Lamanna with an 11-8 record and No. 21 national ranking. They return all but one of their starters, Cohen.
