#14 women's tennis falls to #8 Tufts, 6-3

The Brandeis University women's tennis team ranked #14was defeated by #8 Tufts University 6-3 today. With the loss, the Judges fall to 9-5, while the Jumbos improve to 6-5.

It was doubles play that cost the Judges as they dropped all three matches. At No. 1 it was senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophomore Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) who fell 8-5. The Jumbos contined their strong doubles play, knocking off duo of senior Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and rookie Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) 8-4 at No. 3 and duo of senior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Academy of Allied Health and Sciences) and junior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus / Secondary School #185 of Minsk) 8-5 at No. 2.

In singles action, the Jumbos stretched their lead to 5-0, as sophomore Bertsch was defeated 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, while senior Khromchenko also fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. The Judges got on the board with a win at No. 5 by senior He, 6-3, 7-5. The Jumbos would respond at No. 2 as senior Leavitt lost a tough match 6-2, 2-6, 9-11. The Judges finished out strong with a pair of wins at No. 1 and 6 as junior Dehterevich earned a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 victory, while rookie Hatfield claimed a 5-7, 7-6, 11-9 victory.

The Judges will look to bounce back as they will travel to Bowdoin College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match.
