Women's tennis drops Nichols, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team won its first dual match of the season today, dispatching Nichols College, 9-0, at the Cordish Tennis Center.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 1-0.
  • Nichols, 6-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges rolled to a 3-0 lead after doubles, losing just five games across the three matches. Brandeis won 8-1 at the top two spots and 8-3 at No. 3.
  • In singles action, six different sets were decided by 6-0 scores, including sophomore Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) at No. 3 and first-year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) at No. 5. Tamaoki's match was the clincher.
  • The closest match of the day came at No. 1, where first-year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) outlasted the Bison's Antonia Carrero, 6-3, 7-5.

UP NEXT

  • The Judges are off until next February when they take their annual trip to California.
  • Nichols kicks off the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament on Tuesday.
