#40 women roll past Whittier, 8-1

WHITTIER, Calif. – In their second match of the day, the Brandeis women's tennis team had little trouble with host Whittier College. The Judges won 8-1 and did not drop more than four games in any match, as their lone loss was a player who was unable to complete a fourth match of the day.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis: 3-2, #40 in Division III.
  • Whittier: 0-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges downed the Poets with ease, never losing more than three games in any set throughout the day.
  • First-year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) was one of two double-winners in the match. She teamed with classmate Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) for an 8-2 win at #2 doubles and then rolled to a 6-0, 6-1, win at #4 singles.
  • Zhang also won twice, taking her #3 singles match, 6-1, 6-2. Older sister Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) won easily at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
  • Sophomore Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) was the final double-winner on the day, teaming with Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) for an 8-1 win at #1 doubles and winning a 6-2, 6-2, decision at #2 singles.
  • The Judges' lone defeat was at #1 singles, where Suarez retired after winning the first four games of her match.
