#40 women's tennis roars past Lyons, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team had little trouble with Wheaton College today in their first home match of the spring, as the Judges had only one set in which they lost more than one game in the 9-0 indoor victory.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 4-2, #40 in Division III in the latest ITA Rankings.
  • Wheaton, 1-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges were led by first-year Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International), who lost only one game in her two matches. She and classmate Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) won 8-0 at #2 doubles, and Zhang won, 6-1, 6-0, in her first match of the season at #1 singles.
  • Tamaoki also had a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles that clinched the victory.
  • The duo of sophomore Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) and Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) improved to 10-1 on the season at #1 doubles.
  • Also winning 12 of their 13 games on the day in singles action were first-year Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) at #4; junior Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) at #5; and junior Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) at #6.
  • The closest match of the day came at #3 singles, where sophomore Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) defeated the Lyons' Alissa Ortiz, 6-2, 6-1.
