Brandeis Women Lose a Close One in Ranked Matchup

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Brandeis women's tennis team traveled to New York today to take on Skidmore college in a meeting of ITA-ranked teams. The #31 Thoroughbreds upset the #19 Judges in a very close 5-4 match.

 

TEAM RECORDS AND RANKINGS

  • Brandeis: 6-5, 19th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
  • Skidmore: 7-4, 31th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brandeis had the upper hand after the doubles matches, winning two out of three.
  • The doubles team of Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) and first-year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) took home the victory in #1 doubles 8-3, while the #2 doubles team of first-years Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) and Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) won their match by a score of 8-6.
  • In singles action, the Judges won two out of the six contests.
  • Suarez was pushed to three sets at #1, but she eventually prevailed 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.
  • First-year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) was also pushed to a third set where she ended up winning by a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
  • In the match that likely decided the final score, sophomore Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) forced a third set after dropping the first, but the third set did not go her way.
  • Sia lost her match at #4 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

The Judges return home for their next match this Thursday, March 30 as the Babson Beavers make the short trip to Brandeis at 3:30.
