Judges Dominate in Ranked Matchup Against Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis women's tennis team took a short trip over to neighboring Wellesley for their match today. The #27 ranked Judges had a dominant victory over the #40 ranked Blue, winning 9-0, their third match sweep of the season.

 

TEAM RECORDS AND RANKINGS

  • Brandeis: 8-8, 27th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
  • Wellesley: 6-6, 40th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The most competitive doubles match of the day came at #1.
  • First-year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) and sophomore Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) were pushed but eventually prevailed 8-7.
  • The doubles teams of sophomore Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou School)/ first-year Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) and first-year Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional)/ sophomore Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) both took victories as well 8-4 and 8-2, respectively.
  • In singles action, four of the six matches had to be decided by a third set.
  • Parwani battled back after losing the first set to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at #1 singles.
  • Zhang also dropped the first set but won decisively in the second and third sets to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
  • First-year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) and sophomore Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) both followed a pattern of win-loss-win to take their matches.
  • Tamaoki won her match by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at #3, while Sia's match was 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 at #4.
  • Chase and junior Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) made quick work of their matches winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
