Track teams earn five wins at George Davis Invite

LOWELL, Mass. - The Brandeis University men's and women's track and field team competed at the George Davis Invitational on April 11 at UMass Lowell.  In a non-scoring meet, the men's team had one first-place finish and one second-place finish, while the women's team had four first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and one third-place finish.

      The women's first individual win came in the 800 meter run as rookie Erin Bisceglia (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug) finished with a time of 2:22.27.  In the same race, sophomore Emily Owen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished fourth with a time of 2:23.94.  The second victory came in the 1600 meter run.  Junior Beth Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) won the race with a 4:44.72 final time while sophomore Marie Lemay (Saco, Maine/Thorton Academy) finished the race in third place with a time of 4:54.37.  Junior Ally Connolly (Concord, Mass./Concord) picked up the Judges' third win in the 5000 meter run with a final time of 19:09.89.

      The final win for the women came from rookie Lucia Capano (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) in the triple jump event as she finished with a distance of 10.59 meters (34 feet, nine inches).  She also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.07 meters (16 feet, seven and ¾ inches) and 13th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.72.

      The two second-place finishes came in the 3000 meter run and the high jump.  Senior Katy Agule (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough High School) finished the 3000 meter race with a time of 10:25.37 while junior Suzanne Bernier (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) finished with a distance of 1.60 meters (five feet, three inches).

       Rookie Chris Brown (No. Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) took the only victory for the men's team in the 1500 meter run.  He finished with a winning time of 4:05.31 while senior Matt Jennings (Sudbury, Mass/Lincoln-Sudbury) came in second with a final time of 4:07.28.
