Shanley wins mile as women's track takes fourth at Wheaton

The Brandeis track and field teams competed at the Wheaton College Invitational this weekend. The Judges, entering a limited roster to the meet, placed fourth out of 12 teams on the women's side and ninth out of 10 teams on the men's side.

Brandeis had one winner on the afternoon, as rookie Molly Shanley (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) earned her first collegiate victory. Shanley won the mile run with a time of 5:28.00, nearly four seconds ahead of the runner-up. The Judges also had a fine performance in the 800-meter run, where rookie Erin Bisceglia (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug) placed second in 2:42.22, while junior Julia Alpaio (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) was third in 2:25.29. Brandeis also took second and third in the high jump, where junior Suzanne Bernier (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) was runner-up with a height of 1.56 meters (5-1 ¼), while rookie Lily Parenteau (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) was third at 1.51 meters (4-11 ½).

On the men's side, only two scoresr emerged for the Judges. Rookie Myles Tyrer-Vassell (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) took fifth place in the long jump with a distance of 5.82 meters (19-1 ¼). Tyrer-Vassell also turned in the fastest qualifying time in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.99 seconds, but was unable to compete in the finals. Sophomore Ryan Cheng (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) placed sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:38.13
