Selig wins New England title in 3,000-meters to lead women's track to 10th-place finish

GORHAM, Maine -- Brandeis junior Grayce Selig (Narberth, Pa./Springside School) won the 3,000-meter run today at the 2010 Division III New England indoor track and field championships at the University of Southern Maine. Selig was one of six Brandeis women to earn All-New England honors as the Judges finished in 10th place at the championships with 25 points.

Selig captured the 3K with a time of 10:14.57, about 2.75 seconds ahead of her next-closer competitor. Her title was the first for a Brandeis woman at the New England DIII championships since 2006. It was the second time in her career that Selig has earned All-Region honors in the 3,000, having placed eighth in 2009.

The Judges' next-best finish came in the 800-meter run, where junior Emily Owen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) placed fourth with a time of 2:18.58, just over two seconds out of a top-three finish.

In the mile-run, Brandeis had two All-New England performances, as senior Beth Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) placed sixth with a time of 5:06.61, while junior Marie Lemay (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was eighth in 5:07.19. Lemay also earned All-Region honors in the mile in 2009.
