Selig improves a pair of NCAA times at BU Valentine's Classic

BOSTON, Mass. - Brandeis junior Grayce Selig (Narberth, Pa./Springside School) improved her personal standing in the mile run, as well as that of the Judges' distance-medley relay, at this weekend's Boston University Valentine's Classic.

Selig became the first woman in school history to run a sub-five-minute mile when she finished fifth in her heat with a time of 4.57.68, breaking her own school record by more than two seconds. Selig turned in the 14th-fastest mile time at the meet overall, 11th among collegiate runners and second among Division III competitors. She is one of eight Division III women to have run a sub-five-minute mile this season and ranks fifth nationally.

Selig also helped the Brandeis distance medley relay team improve its standing in the NCAA rankings. With a time of 11:56.60, the quartet of senior Beth Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), senior Julia Alpaio (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East), rookie Anifreed Sinjour (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) and Selig now rank third nationally with one of only three relays run under 12 minutes this season. Brandeis is currently are qualified for the NCAA Division III women's track and field championships in four different events with five different individuals plus the relay. After competing in the New England Division III championships next weekend, The Judges will host the 2010 University Athletic Association championships on March 5 and 6.
