CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis University track and field teams had a pair of individual champions and seven other All-Association performances this weekend at the 2011 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field championships held at the University of Chicago. Both the Brandeis men and women's squads finished in sixth place, with the women scoring 39 points and the men tallying 35.
On the women's side, the Judges just narrowly missed a pair of UAA titles. Senior Grayce Selig (Narberth, Pa./Springside School), the top seed in the mile run, was edged at the tape for second place. Her time of 5:06.47 was one-tenth of a second behind winner Liz Phillips of Washington University. It was the second year in a row that Selig was the runner-up in the mile at the UAA indoor championships. Senior Marie Lemay (Saco, Maine/Thornton Acad.) also earned All-Association honors in the mile, placing third with a time of 5:11.51. LeMay, a three-time prior All-UAA honoree as part of a relay, earns her first individual honor.
Brandeis's other runner-up performance came in the high jump. Junior Lily Parenteau (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), who was also second at the New England Division III championships, had a season-best jump of 1.63 meters. The height was tied for the best of the meet with Case Western Reserve junior Erin Hollinger – who was coming fresh off the end to her basketball season - but placed second based on number of jumps.
Also taking All-Association honors for the Judges was junior Anifreed Sinjour (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford), who was third place in the 400-meter dash. Sinjour ran a pair of season-bests in the event, running 1:00.27 in the preliminaries and 1:00.24 in the finals, to earn her first individual All-UAA honor to go with a relay award from 2010. Senior Lucia Capano (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) took home her third career All-UAA honor from the indoor season, placing third in the triple jump for the second year in a row with a distance of 11.14 meters, just shy of a season-best. Sophomore Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) rounded out the Brandeis scorers, also placing in the triple jump, coming in fifth with a distance of 11.03 meters, a season-best.
