Women's track takes second at Poyau

WALTHAM, Mass. – At their annual Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, the Brandeis women's indoor track and field team won four events to finish in second place out of five teams.

The Brandeis women were successful in distance and field events. Senior Grayce Selig (Narberth, Pa./Springside School) took the 3,000-meter run in 9:50.01, setting a school indoor record. Classmate Marie Lemay (Saco, Maine/Thornton Acad.) took the mile run with a time of 5:13.51.

Senior Lucia Capano (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) had a fine overall meet, scoring in three events. Capano won the triple jump with a distance of 10.96 meters (35 feet, 11 ½ inches) and came in third in the long jump (4.82 m, 15-9 ¾) and in the 55-meter dash (7.80 seconds). The Judges' final win came in the high jump where junior Lily Parenteau (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) won at a height of 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches).

Amherst won the meet on the women's side with 190 points, while Brandeis came in second with 96.

The Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational is named after Brandeis runner Reggie Poyau, who drowned in May, 2003, while studying abroad in Senegal.
