Brown leads track at USATF New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  After earning All-New England honors in the 4x200m relay a day earlier, rookie Kanya Brown (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst Regional) set a p.r. in the 60m dash, running 8.22 seconds in the USATF New England Championships at Harvard University on Sunday.  Brown also ran the 200m with a time of 27.37 seconds.  In the 400m, rookie Maya Sands-Bliss (Williamsburg, Mass. / Amherst Regional) returned to the track after fully recovering from an injury and ran 1:04.84. Senior Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass. / Notre Dame Acad.) had a great race in the 800m and ran her third fastest time ever, clocking a 2:19.94. She was joined by rookie Aubrey Clemens (Albuquerque, N.M. / Del Norte), who ran her 4th consecutive season best finishing in 2:32.02.

In the field events, the day began with rookie Abby Daniels (Montpelier, Vt. / Union 32) setting a lifetime p.r. in the pole vault and breaking her season best by over a foot. Daniels vaulted 2.90m (9-6 ¼). Over in the throwing circle, sophomore Jordin Carter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / R. Nelson Snyder) and senior Ashley Klein (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) both set personal records in the shot put. Carter threw 9.47m (31-1) and Klein threw 9.42m (30-11), shattering her previous PR of 9.15m (30-¼.)

Next Friday, February 26th-Sunday, February 28th, the team will compete in the University Athletic Association championships at the Armory in New York City, hosted by NYU.
