Women's 4x200m Qualifies for ECACs at Tufts Cupid Invitational

The Brandeis Judges continued to pick up steam this weekend at the Tufts Cupid Invitational, approaching championship season in two weeks.  The Judges competed alongside athletes from Amherst, Connecticut College, MIT, SUNY Geneseo, Tufts, Wellesley, and WPI at this non-scoring meet.

The day opened with a fourth-place finish in the shot put by junior Jordin Carter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / R. Nelson Snyder), with an effort of 10.53m (34 feet, 6.5 inches), only six centimeters off of her personal best. Also in the field, rookie Churchill Perry (Pembroke Pines, FL / Westminster Academy) made his collegiate long jump debut, jumping 5.98m (19' 7.5") for a sixth place finish. Fellow rookie Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass. / King Phillip Regional) was right behind him, jumping 5.82m (19' 1"). The field events were rounded out by women's high jump where all three jumping Judges—Beth Defossez (Boxford, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.), Willa Moen (Ashland, Ore. / Ashland), and Jessie Moore (Rye, N.Y. / Rye)—cleared 1.37m (4' 6"), tying for fourth place.

On the track, sophomore Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Regional) broke 7.2 seconds for the first time in the 60m, running 7.19 seconds both in his qualifying heat and in finals. The women's 4x200m team—consisting of sophomore Kanya Brown (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst Regional), sophomore Maya Bliss (Williamsburg, Mass. / Amherst Regional), rookie Kayla Kurland-Davis (Colrain, Mass. / Mohawk Trail Regional), and junior Jessie Moore (Rye, N.Y. / Rye)—were next on the track. The relay ran 1:50.36, placing second and qualifying for ECACs.

Later in the day, sophomore Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) placed third in the 400m, running a PR of 1:02.98. After that, Brandeis men dominated in the 200m, with sophomore Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Regonial), senior Irie Gourde (Portland, Ore. / York School, Canada), and rookie Churchill Perry  (Pembroke Pines, FL / Westminster Academy) placing second, third, and sixth, respectively.

In the final individual event on the track, junior Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson Regional) 8:54.82 put up a near 11 second PR in the 3000m, running 8:54.82 to dip under 9 minutes and place seventh.

Following these performances, the Brandeis Judges look forward to sending a women's squad to BU's Valentine Invitational this Friday evening and a men's squad on Saturday.
