NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Brandeis University sophomore Emily Bryson of Quincy, Mass., placed ninth today in the mile run and 14th in the 3,000-meter run at the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at North Central College.

Bryson, who finished with a time of 4:57.02, placed just four-tenths of a second out of her third career All-America honor and first in indoor track. The race was tightly bunched through the first six laps, with Bryson battling for fourth and fifth place for most of that time.

She tried to make a move outside with 400 meters to go, but was unable to gain any space. As the competition picked up its pace in the final two laps, Bryson maintained her speed but was unable to continue to make up ground in the standings despite running nearly four seconds faster than her preliminary race (5:00.91).  

Emily Richards, a junior from Ohio Northern, won the race with a time of 4:51.51.

Later in the day, Bryson competed in the 3,000-meter run. Seeded seventh headed into meet, she started the race on the inside lane. Bryson was never able to break into the lead grouping and finished in 14th place with a time of 10:10.35.

The event was won by Ithaca junior Taryn Cordani, who set a new NCC facility record with a time of 9:42.43.
