Jessie Moore '18 won the ECAC heptathlon title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Brandeis outdoor track and field team wrapped up the majority of its season this weekend with the ECAC Division III Championships at Westfield State University.

On the women's side, Brandeis had one champion, as the Judges saw junior Jessie Moore (Rye, N.Y./Rye) win three events to capture her first career victory in the heptathlon with a lifetime best score of 3677. She eclipsed her previous career-best by 135 points and won the event by just 32 points. Moore won the 200-meter dash and the 800-meter run and tied for the best mark in the high jump. She established personal bests in four of the seven events: the 100-meter hurdles (18.49 seconds), the shot put (9.80 meters, 32-2), the 200-meter dash (26.79 seconds), the 800 (2:34.05).

Senior Maddie Dolins (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) closed out her career with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:06.95.

Moore also helped the Judges' 4x100-meter relay earn a point with a seventh-place finish. She ran the anchor leg, with sophomore Kanya Brown (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) running leadoff and rookies Kayla Fahey (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) and Courtney Page () running the second and third legs as the Judges finished with a time of 50.95 seconds.

 

The Judges had a pair of ECAC Champions for the men. Rookie Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass.) won the decathlon with a score of 5658, 114 points shy of his previous career-best score. Allan won eight of the 10 events, posting personal-bests in the 100-meter dash (11.66 seconds), the discus throw (31.24m, 102-6) and the pole vault (3.50m, 11-5 ¾) and tying his career-best in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.52 seconds.

Junior Liam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) won a tight race in Wednesday evening's final event, the 10,000-meter run. Garvey posted a time of 32:48.85  in his second-ever race at the distance, edging Kevin Dixon of Alfred University by about a second and a half.

Brandeis had a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.34. Senior Irie Gourde (Portland, Ore./York School, Canada) ran the lead leg in a warm-up for the NCAA Championships next week, followed by classmates Nick Wactor (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce) and Jeremy Wilson (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) and rookie Churchill Perry (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Westminster Acad.). The time was the fastest run by a Brandeis quartet in the 4x400 since at least 2010.

Gourde also earned All-ECAC honors in the 200-meter dash, lowering his own school record by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 21.67 seconds. That mark is ranked 35th in Division III.

The Judges also had two scoring performances in the 5,000-meter run, as juniors Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) were third and fourth, respectively, with times of 15:26.47 and 15:40.92.

In the team scoring, the men finished in third place with 54 points, three behind second-place Stevenson (Md.) University. Farmingdale (N.Y.) State won with 85 points. The women tied for seventh place with Frostburg (Md.) State with 24 points, just behind UAA rivals NYU, who had 29.

Additionally, on Thursday evening, sophomores Emily Bryson and Doyin Ogundiran will compete at the MIT Last Chance Meet in an attempt to improve their position on the NCAA Championship qualifying list. Bryson runs in the 1,500-meter run, while Ogundiran races in the 800 meters.
