Bryson earns UAA Athlete of the Week honors, Feb. 11

Emily Bryson, UAA Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the sixth time this year and the 19th time in her career, Brandeis University senior Emily Bryson of Quincy, Massachusetts, has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week.

Bryson was honored for her performance at the Boston University David Hemery Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 8 and 9. On the 8th, Bryson ran in the mile and turned in a time of 4:48.36, which lowered her own season-best time in the Division III rankings by 1.32 seconds. She now leads the next-closest competitor by nearly four full seconds. On Saturday morning, Bryson anchored the distance medley relay (DMR) team that finished with a time of 11:50.34 seconds. The time is currently tied for the second-fastest in Division III, though the Judges are one-thousandth of a second behind Williams in third. The other members of the team were twin sister Julia Bryson of Quincy, Massachusetts, first-year Devin Hiltunen, also of Quincy, Massachusetts, and senior Doyin Ogundiran of Dix Hills, New York.

Bryson is a six-time All-American, including twice in track and field. Last year at the NCAA Division III Championships, she won the 3,000-meter run – and is currently ranked eighth nationally in that event for 2019 – and helped the Judges come in third in the DMR. Julia Bryson and Ogundiran were also part of that third-place team.

Bryson and the Judges will compete at the USATF Indoor Championships at Harvard on Sunday afternoon before hosting the University Athletic Association championships next Saturday and Sunday, February 23rd and 24th. Bryson is a 2015 graduate of North Quincy High School.
