The Brandeis University volleyball team split a pair of matches
at Endicott College over the weekend. The Judges opened with a
three-game loss to the host Gulls, but bounced back to defeat Clark
University, 3-0.
In the opener against Endicott, the Judges had three close games,
but were unable to pull any of them out, falling, 3-23, 31-29,
30-25. Rookie Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded a
double-double in the first match, with 12 kills and 12 digs. Senior
co-captain Jenna Polinsky (White Plains, N.Y.) also reached double
figures in kills with 11.
Coach Michelle Kim's squad had a much easier time with Clark in the
second match of the day, rolling to a 30-19, 30-19, 30-21, victory.
Wingenbach was the offensive leader, registering a career-high 18
kills with just six errors in 36 attempts for a .333 hitting
eprcentage. Rookie setter Violette Ruggiero (Paradise Valley,
Ariz.) added 27 assists, while the entire team contributed to the
defensive effort, with five different players recording between six
and eight digs.
