Volleyball sweeps Bowdoin, falls to Williams to finish sixth at Hall of Fame tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Brandeis volleyball team bounced back from its first-round loss in the Hall of Fame Tournament to defeat Bowdoin College in three straight. The Judges defeated the Polar Bears, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22, and advanced face Williams in the fifth-place match. The Ephs avenged a five-set loss from earlier in the season with a 25-14, 28-26, 18-25, 25-19 victory.

Against Bowdoin, sophomore outside hitter Paige Blasco (Greeley, Colo.) led the way offensively with nine kills. She also had 12 digs and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) added seven kills eight digs and two blocks, while classmate Violette Ruggiero (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) had the top defensive performance with 17 digs.

Against Williams, junior right-side Piera Carfagno (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the way with 14 kills and a .229 hitting percentage while contributing five blocks on defense. Paige Blasco recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while sister Abby had 40 assists and team-high 14 digs.
