Volleyball sweeps Trinity, 3-0

The hosts put together a perfect 4-0 record at the Brandeis Volleyball Invitational today with sweeps of Trinity (Conn.) College and Rhode Island College. The Judges topped the Bantams, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16, and downed the Anchorwomen by scores of 25-20, 25-8, 25-17. Sophomore outside hitter Paige Blasco (Greely, Colo.) earned All-Tournament honors for the Judges.

Against Trinity, Brandeis fell behind 7-0 early in set one thanks to aggressive serving by the Bantams, but the Judges were able to rally for the 25-22 win, the fifth time Trinity played a game with that score in the tournament. The Judges were able to hang on for a 26-24 victory in the second set before pulling away in set three, 25-16.

Paige Blasco and her twin sister, sophomore setter Abby, each had a tremendous match for the Judges. Abby helped the team with 41 assists that led to a season-best .310 hitting percentage (50 kills, 11 errors, 126 attempts). Paige converted 18 kills with just two errors in 33 attempts for a team-high .485 percentage. The twins both recorded double-doubles, as Paige had 11 digs and Abby had 10. The senior tandem of OH Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) and libero Violette Ruggiero (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) led the squad with 12 digs each. Wingenbach also had three service aces.

Trinity junior Molly Ullman (Studio City, Calif.) led the Bantams with nine kills and 10 digs. Rookie setter Jennifer Low (San Francisco, Calif.) had 31 assists.
