Waltham, Mass.--The Judges swept both their matches today at the Keene State College Volleyball Invitational in straight sets. Brandeis(13-7, 1-2 in conference) took on the Colby-Sawyer Chargers (10-8) first at 2:00 p.m., earning their first victory of the day in straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23. Next, the Judges took on the Keene State Owls(14-19) beating them 25-19, 25-17, 26-24.
Against Colby-Sawyer, senior outside hitter Paige Blasco (Greeley, Col./Frontier Acad.) led the team with nine kills and 11 digs. Twin sister, setter Abby had 20 assists, four kills and six digs. Senior middle blocker Nicole Smith (Marietta, Ga./Alan C. Pope) had eight kills, while sophomore Susan Sun (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) had 23 digs and an ace.
In their second game of the day, the Judges blew past the Owls
in straight sets. Paige Blasco earned another 15 kills, four
service aces, and four digs for 18 points. Smith earned 10
points for the judges, with six kills and three digs. Sophomore
outside hitter Lauren Berens ( Boulder, CO/Fairview) had six kills,
eight digs, and two aces for 10 points. Rookie outside hitter
Si-Si
Hensley (Fullerton, CA/Troy) had six kills and 11 digs.
Sun notched another 16 digs against the owls.
The Judges are back in action next weekend, October 16 and 17, for
the second University Athletic Association round robin to be played
at Brandeis University.
