Brandeis volleyball opens 2013 season with sweep of Worcester State

DANBURY, Conn. (info taken from a WCSU press release) -- The Brandeis University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win in their 2013 season opener against the Worcester State University Lancers in a match played as part of the Western Connecticut State University Invitational. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-22. Brandeis is now 1-0, WSU, 0-1. 

The Judges had several fine performances. Senior co-captain and setter Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) turned in a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs. Brandeis's two All-UAA selections from a year ago continued their excellent play, as junior outside hitter Liz Hood (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) had a match-high 13 kills, while classmate libero Elsie Bernaiche (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) led all players with 13 digs. Rookie right-side hitter Jessica Kaufman (Tucson, Ariz./Cienaga) performed well in her debut with seven kills, second-most in the match, and a .333 hitting percentage that led all players (7 K-2 E-15 TA).

Leaders for Worcester State were Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, Mass.) with six kills, Amanda Lewis
(Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with 18 assists, and Vicki O'Brien (Canton, Mass.) with 12 digs.

Brandeis will take on host Western Connectictut State and Worcester State in tomorrow's invitational action.
